Achieving Optimal Health
Super Healthy Living is a way of thinking about how we live our lives. Here’s one way to look at it. You’ve got this “million-dollar racecar”—that’s your body. If you want it to run right, you have to put in good fuel—and by that I mean a diet filled with health-promoting SuperFoods. Quality fuel helps you keep your body in good health for decades. Equally important, however, is the synergy of your other lifestyle choices. In other words, how you drive that “million-dollar racecar.”
After all, we all want our “healthspan” to last as long as our lifespan. Achieving the goal of optimal health means weaving together the independent strands of our health “web.” These stands include sleep, nutrition, physical activity, and stress reduction, which work synergistically to impact our health and well-being.
We need the right amount of sleep. We need to eat the right foods. We need to reduce stress. And we need to be physically active. The sum total of these lifestyle choices is far greater than any one by itself. This concept of synergy is important: It’s not just one thing. These positive lifestyle choices work together synergistically to strengthen our immune systems, helping to prevent or alleviate chronic conditions, so we can live longer, healthier lives.
In these Super Healthy Living conversations with you, it is my privilege to share what I have learned through my medical practice, my research in the fields of integrative medicine and nutrition, and the peer-reviewed research on which I base my work. In Super Healthy Living, We’ll focus on how we can all feel more energized, more optimistic and more fulfilled throughout our lives.
My first book, SuperFoods Rx, presented the basic, powerful concept that certain foods have significant health-promoting properties. Often when people learn about these properties, their relationship to food changes: they want to include more SuperFoods in their diets.
In our Super Healthy Living conversations, we’ll take the SuperFoods concept one step further and help you create a blueprint for optimal health based on the latest peer-reviewed research, published in respected journals. Of course, I know that research recommendations aren’t always easy to implement. So in each post, we’ll also focus on practical ways to overcome obstacles and barriers that can prevent us from making healthy lifestyle changes.
